Influenced by Swedish and Danish ‘to gather’ or ‘to collect’. The Nordic translations perfectly encapsulate taking inspiration from wild treasures gathered from country to coast in favourite places, each with their own stories.

Sea glass from the coasts of Northumberland and Cornwall, feathers, dried grasses and knotted wood found on our Lincolnshire farm. Collected in moments of slow living, taking in nature and finding calm and happiness in the little things. Gathered simply for their pleasing nature alone, each make for tiny magical stories in themselves.

A background in textiles, fashion and interior design spanning almost 20 years has afforded me a deep understanding of fibers, fabrics and making the best sustainable choices.  Interior design inspirations are a blend of pared back Scandinavian simplicity and functionality along with rustic country farmhouse influences.  Linens are used for their beautiful textures and strong sustainable credentials but they also evoke memories of embroidered linens used by my Scandinavian family.

Sustainability is the foundation of Samla home.  Linen is a natural choice, using far less resources to cultivate than other fibres and being fully biodegradable.  Most linens used are vintage or European sources and threads are organic cotton rather than polyester.  All wood elements used in Samla collections including poles and frames are FSC (Forest Stewarship Council certified wood from well managed forests) typically in solid oak.  Mounts and backboards for framed pieces are FSC certified card and kraft board, from local specialist framers. Painted elements are natural and toxin free.  Packaging and correspondence is all recycled and recyclable.

Each Samla wall art collection is limited and once sold is available on a made to order basis to eliminate unnecessary waste.

I hope you enjoy bringing this curated collection of sustainable decor into your own home.
